Doreen Alice Stanger Carden

Doreen Alice Stanger Carden passed away at Central Washington Hospital, Wenatchee, on December 16, 2004 into the loving care of the Heavenly Father. Services were held at Barnes Chapel, officiated by Father Jake Morton. She was returned to the Mother Earth on December 20, 2004 at the Fort Okanogan Cemetery at Monse, Washington. Mark Stanger sang her a drum song for her journey to her ancestors.

She was born March 24, 1931 in East Omak, Washington to Isaac (Ike) and Esther (Parsons) Stanger. While growing up she was known to her family as “Sabine”. She attended schools in Omak and the DeSmet Mission in Idaho. She met Robert (Bob) Lavern Carden and they were married February 8, 1946 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, Catholic Church and a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Brewster, Washington. Her life was being a full time wife and mother, and when the nest was near empty, she became the “navigator” when she and Dad were long haul truckin. She was known on the highways to Chicago, L.A. and back by her CB handle “One Red Rose”. If she wasn’t shopping, she was playing Bingo, casino hoppin, powwowing, or just being with family and friends. When she called or answered the phone, she always greeted with a smile in her voice and a “How dooo”. Our hearts ache for our loss, but her memory and how she touched us all, family and friends, in our lives will keep us company til we are together again.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Esther Stanger, her brothers, Louis, Kenneth (Nook), and Joseph (Joe) Stanger and her sisters, Lorena Stanger and June Stanger Marchand. She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Carden and 7 children, Roberta (Bobbie) and Krist Baldoz, Carol and Jerry Vining, Linda Wilhelm, Gerold (Gary) and Chuckie Carden, Phyllis Carden, Sonia Moody, and Chester Carden, her sister Pearl Stanger Trevino, 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is forever grateful to all the family and friends who helped Dad and the rest of us with your emotional support, your presence, prayers and love in the loss of a beloved wife of 58 years, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin. We appreciate all those who helped in preparing Mom for her journey, the services, the food gifts, and food preparations, etc. Thank you.

In loving memory of
Stoney Z. Covington

Stoney left us on June 26th, 2005 at Newport, WA doing what he loved most, riding a bull.

Stoney was born July 27, 1988 to Loretta Covington and Leroy Zacherle at Omak, WA.

Stoney came to live with Leo and Denise Covington at a very young age (1-1/2). He was already wanting to be a cowboy, wearing his Papa’s big boots and cowboy hat. When he was 2-1/2 years old, he got on his first sheep; after that he had the itch to ride. Stoney rode sheep, calves and tried a cow, but they were to skinny, so he went to bulls at the age of 13 until he left us at the age of 16, almost 17. Besides rodeo he excelled in wrestling, he would have been a senior at LRHS this year.

Stoney leaves behind his grandma Denise, Mother Loretta, Mitch, his dad Leroy, Uncle Bozo & Lori, Aunts: Melynda, Khristy, Monty, Sharlyn, Shawn, 4 sisters: Charissa, Nichole, Jessica and Morgan; Darcy Epperson (godmother), Aunt Bertha Covington, Uncles: R.C. (Corky), Earl, Vern, Truman and Mike. Stoney also leaves behind his beloved brother, Shan.

He is preceded in death by his Papa Leo, grandparents Clara and Wilson Covington, grandpa, Leroy Zacherle, Sr. and his great-grandma, Topi.

Stoney will be missed, but always remembered by everyone he touched with his kind heart.

We love you, Stoney.
Grandma Denise & brother Shan and the rest of the family.

The Family of Stoney Covington would like to thank everyone who showed his or her love at the time of our loss.

Stoney was like a magnet that drew us all together. There are so many to thank, if I have forgotten any one I truly apologize.

First, thank you to the community of Nespelem, Grand Coulee areas, Omak and Keller for the endless food donations, monetary gifts, flowers and cards. These are very much appreciated and helped to ease some of the heartache. Thank You.

To all the cooks who cooked the wonderful meals during the wake and after the services. To Duffy for his generous donation (casket). To the flier makers and you, Scott for the beautiful slide show, it brought back memorable times with Stoney. Many thanks to Smoker and Gary for the artwork you put together. Thank you to Father Jake and Al Parsons for the wonderful words you had to say about Stoney. Thank you to Friends and Family that came to the house and eased some of the pain by telling stories, some I knew nothing about. Thank you to the hunters and meat driers. Last, but not least, thank you to the horse riders who rode Stoney in to the cemetery. Thank you all, words alone cannot express our appreciation.

We love you all.
Denise and Shan Covington
