Counter Terrorism Training Exercise held
Oct. 4-6 at Grand Coulee Dam

TALKING—USE ARM & HAND SIGNALS—During a Media
briefing/orientation that started about noon on Wednesday,
Oct. 5, it was explained that the Training Exercise started at
about 6:00 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, and that it would end about
6:00 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 6. The exercise was held to
determine what the Grand Coulee Security Response Force needed
to do to overcome any threat, and how to use the assistance
provided by Local, State, Federal, and Tribal agencies. The
only place that wasn’t off limits to the Media during the
Training Exercise was the Visitor Center. Inside of the
Visitor Center, high school students played the part of people
who were wounded. The 5-men team above enter the building to
look for any terrorist that may be inside the building, and to
determine what needed to be done to evacuate the wounded.
PROVIDING
FIRE SUPPORT—One of the five members of the security team
stays by the door to provide any fire support that may be
needed to protect the members of his team...and to look for
any enemy personnel that may be still in the building.
TREATING
THE WOUNDED—USBR personnel provide the medical treatment
needed to take care of the wounded, and to prepare them for
evacuation. A helicopter was used to evacuate some of the
wounded. A “Public Notice” from the Bureau of Reclamation
stated: “The purpose of the exercise is to test how agencies
can communicate, coordinate, and respond to a terrorist threat
at Grand Coulee Dam”.

Professional Boxing held
at the Coeur d’Alene Casino on Thursday, Oct. 27

QUESTIONS?—A referee confers with Shawn Hawk before he fights
Sweet RC Fisher in the 195 pound division at the Events
Center, Coeur d’Alene Casino, Worley, Idaho. Shawn originally
from South Dakota represents the Casino, and now lives at
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. His boxing match was the last one of the
six Semi-Main Events held at the Casino. Shawn previously
fought in four round matches, then six rounders, and this
would be Sean’s first eight-round bout, and his record to that
point is 9-0 with seven knockouts.

NEW
CHAMP—In the main event at the House of Fury boxing matches,
Felix Cora wears the belt he won from Arthur Williams in the
North American Boxing Federation Cruiserweight Title Fight.
Arthur from Las Vegas, Nevada, was unable to compete at the
start of round 10. Up to that time, Arthur’s record was
41-13-1 (29 KO’s). After winning the fight, Felix from
Galveston, Texas, record is now 17-0 (9 KO’s).

General Membership
Meeting held at Omak Long House
ST. MARY’S MISSION, OCT. 8—Only 140 Tribal Members registered
for the General Membership meeting held here today at the Omak
Long House.
Ten Council Members gave a report this morning on what took
place in their respective committees. Below is some of the
items that were reported out:
*Inchelium District Councilman Virgil Seymour, Chairman of the
Election Committee, said that there maybe four items that will
require a referendum vote: reopen Mt. Tolman for mining,
Council people to serve a 4-year term instead of 2-years, the
inheritance of allotted land, and to do away with the Federal
Government having to approve Amendments to the Tribal
Constitution and By-Laws.
*Inchelium District Councilman Terry Finley, Chairman of the
Veterans Committee said that LaVada Anderson is now in charge
of the Tribes VA Program...and Terry is also the Chairman of
the Law & Justice Committee. The Chief of Police Rory
Gilliland said that the Detention Center is scheduled to open
in Mid-November and that there were 6500 calls for service,
and that 6,000 resulted in reports being filed. Chief Judge
Steve Aycock said that more serious crimes are being reported
today than compared to six years ago.
A Lunch Break was held at noon, and afterwards when the
meeting reconvened, the meeting was open to Membership
comments and questions. Some of the comments that were made:
*Rachel Moses said people should have a better route that they
can take to check in at the Indian Health Clinic.
*Some Tribal Members explained why they were against the
proposed Mt. Tolman project.
*Ed Desautel said that you should give us the best information
you can about Mt. Tolman so we can make the right decision.
*Susie Mason believes in a Referendum Vote for a 4-year term
for members of the Business Council.
The Meeting came to an abrupt halt because the fire alarm
system went off, and it was so loud it hurt people’s ears!

ELDERS PRAYER—Steve Iukes of Nespelem, WA., gave the Opening
Prayer at the General Membership Meeting.
