U.S. House of Representative Cathy McMorris
Is given a tour of the facilities at CIPV
EAST OMAK, Feb.18—During her tour of Okanogan
County during the President’s Day weekend, U.S. Rep. Cathy
McMorris (R-5th) left Oroville, WA., and arrived here this
afternoon to see first hand what takes place here at the
Colville Indian Power & Veneer.
Previously while in Washington, D.C., Keller District Council
Person Jeanne Jerred was able to arrange a meeting with Rep.
McMorris. Jeanne and Brian Gunn, an Attorney whose office is
in D.C., met with Rep. McMorris and during their discussions
Jeanne invited Rep. McMorris to visit the Colville Indian
Reservation.
Rep. McMorris represents the 5th Congressional District of
Eastern Washington, which includes the Colville Indian
Reservation.
The first place Rep. McMorris visited was the Powerhouse, and
was given a brief rundown on what takes place at the power
plant. Afterwards she was taken to the plywood plant where she
seen the manufacturing equipment used to make plywood
products.
On. Aug. 29, 2005, Inchelium District Councilman D.R. Michel
testified and explained the Colville Tribes’ Timber Management
practices at a field hearing held at Colville, WA., on
wildfire and forest health issues in Eastern Washington. Rep.
McMorris was at the hearing and learned about the Colville
Tribes’ wood products industry. Also at the hearing was Greg
Wallden, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives
Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health.

McMorris visited during her tour of the Colville Indian Power
& Veneer plant on Saturday, Feb. 18, was the Powerhouse. Danny
Moore, Powerhouse Operator, points to and explains the
functions of the instruments to Rep. McMorris. The TV Screens
above Danny monitor the fuel feeding system.

Lake Roosevelt Girls Raiders Basketball
Team win District Title

SCORER—Rowena St. Pierre shoots for two points and was the top
scorer with 15 points for the Lake Roosevelt Girls Raiders
Basketball Team as they beat the Liberty Bell girls, 66-52, on
Thursday, Feb. 23, at the 2006 District 6 1A Girls’ Basketball
Tournament held at Brewster, WA. By winning the championship
game, the Raiders won a berth to the state basketball
tournament held at Yakima, WA.

ALL LEAGUE TEAM—Players who were selected for the 2006 Caribou
Trail League Girls All League Team were: (L to R) Kyla Evans,
Brewster...Lake Roosevelt players—Rowena St. Pierre, Amanda
Marchand, and Jessica Loe...Martha Taylor, Brewster...Liberty
Bell’s Korrie Bourn and Kimber Taylor. Standing behind Korrie
is her dad Mike Bourn of Liberty Bell who was named Coach of
the Year.

HELPED TEAM WIN 7TH PLACE LAST YEAR AT STATE TOURNAMENT—Rhonda
St. Pierre was on the front page of the Program for the 2006
District 6 1A Girls’ Basketball Tournament held Feb. 21, 23,
25, at Brewster, WA. Last year Rhonda, a Senior, helped the
Lake Roosevelt Girls Raiders Basketball Team beat the Liberty
Bell Mountain Lions, 59-54, to win the District Championship.
The last time they won the Championship was in 1982. Rhonda
and her teammate Jessica Loe were selected to the CTL’s First
Team.
