Josephine Reynolds
October 9, 1918 – December 17, 2005
Our
beloved Aunt passed away at Orchard Park Convalescent Center
in Tacoma where she received loving, very kind professional
nursing care. Her family wishes to thank every member of the
staff that gave her comfort in the last weeks of her life.
Also, many heartfelt thanks to the Group Health home care
nurses for their help.
Josephine was born in Inchelium, Washington to Fredrick A.
(Runnels) Reynolds and Margaret Steve Reynolds. She was their
last surviving child. Her siblings, Ella Reed, Nancy Wilson,
Henry Reynolds and Margie LaRoque all predeceased her. Her
kind and gentle nature will be missed by her nephews and
nieces, and by the many friends that she made throughout her
life. After the death of their mother, Fred moved the children
to Tulalip where both he and their mother were raised. The
family then stayed with their mother’s family while Fred
worked in the woods during the depression.
The family stayed in Tulalip until they were enrolled in
Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon where each of the girls
graduated. Uncle Henry had other thoughts about school and the
controlled environment. He jumped the rails and did his own
thing. But he enjoyed his new life and eventually moved to
Nespelem and ranched and farmed.
Josephine was an enrolled member of Colville Confederated
Tribes, attended and graduated from Chemawa Indian School in
Oregon. She served her country with the Army Air Force during
WWII having achieved the rank of sergeant. After an honorable
discharge, she went on to work for Federal Civil Service in
California. She retired in 1986 from the Defense Supply
Agency, in Alameda, California, after 33 years of service. Her
last year was spent with her niece Margaret L. Willis and Jim
Willis in Tacoma.
She leaves behind many nephews and nieces. George and Rick
